US/JAPAN SPECIAL TO AIR TONIGHT ON PBS'S CHARLIE ROSE SHOW
Tonight's edition of The Charlie Rose Show on PBS will air a special examining the US/Japanese relationship. The special was produced by Docere Digital Studios in association with The Washington Post Company and Charlie Rose Communications. Docere has worked extensively in the past with both The Washington Post and Newsweek.
The special is underwritten with a special grant from Toyota. Advertisements supporting the broadcast appeared in both Newsweek and The Washington Post. An excerpt from the program premiered this morning at a special ceremony at the U.S. National Archives. The ceremony celebrated the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Kanagawa. The Treaty was signed on this day, March 31st, 150 years ago. It was the first formal treaty between the U.S. and Japan.
The special features two extensive tape segments - one focusing on the political and economic relations between these two great nations; the other taped segment examines their growing cultural rivalry. For the taped segments, Docere crews traveled extensively throughout Japan and the United States. Production on the special commenced in December, 2003.
Rose's studio guests for the special include: Amb. Howard H. Baker Jr. (US Ambassador to Japan), Amb. Ryuzo Kato (Japanese Ambassador to the US), Pete Peterson (The Blackstone Group), Masatuga Nagato (Mizuho Bank) and Japanese culture experts and authors Ian Buruma and John Nathan.
Charlie Rose is the executive producer for Charlie Rose Communications. The executive producer for The Washington Post is Pat Butler. For Docere, Tom Wentworth was the program's senior producer and writer. Jay Cornelius was the director of photography and editor. Laurissa James was the producer. Tim Smith was Docere's program executive and the liaison between the Post and Charlie Rose Communications.
